Hello and Welcome!
Originally from Arizona, I moved to North County San Diego in 1988. I have worked in marketing for the last 25 years and spent the past 20 years working part-time at Palomar College, in San Marcos, where I reside with my husband and two children, aged 12 and 19.
Working part-time while raising our children has been a tremendous blessing for our family. The ability to be there for my kids, while still benefiting from being in the workplace has provided for me the best of both worlds.
Knowing that eventually I would return to full-time work, I began several years ago to reflect on the type of vocation that would be satisfying while enabling me to contribute to society in a positive way. I have always been an active person who enjoys physical activity and sport and decided that teaching physical education
(PE) would be the ideal career for me. I come from a long line of educators - my grandmother, mother, all four of my sisters, and many of my cousins have made their living as teachers. My family likes to say it's in our blood!
My teaching style is a progressive, student-centered one in which children learn through experience and are encouraged to become independent thinkers and learners. I also believe that intrinsic motivation is the best way for students to learn. Providing a challenging, engaging curriculum that meets the individual student's needs is vital to ensuring that students become confident, competent lifelong learners. In the PE setting I will also have the opportunity to build a learning community in which social skills, communication and respect for others are valued and emphasized.
