I’m excited to get started on the 20% project, where we take 20 percent of our class time to pursue a new passion. I have narrowed my choices to two – yoga or guitar.
I have wanted to take a yoga class for years and just have never found the time. Two
of my sisters and several friends swear by it, saying it helps with balance, strength,
flexibility, and the mind. Why wouldn’t I want to improve in all of those areas?!
I have also wanted to learn how to play guitar for years. One of my brothers is a
musician and song writer. He gave me a really nice guitar several years ago, hoping I
would learn to play so we could play together. Every time I see him he asks how it’s
going with the guitar…! I know I can’t become a star during the 20% project but I could
learn some basic chords, which would get me started in my journey.
Below are some questions to help me decide on my project.
Yoga
- Are there online/YouTube videos that will be easy to follow?
- Will I be able to find a quiet space in my house in which to spread out with my yoga mat?
- Will I be able to carve out enough time to make it worthwhile?
- Will I need special equipment besides the yoga mat and weights I already have?
- Will I have enough time during the 20% Project to learn enough to reap the benefits?
- Do I have the motivation to take on this endeavor?
- Will I see a life-enhancing change in flexibility, strength, balance and peace of mind in the amount of time I have?
- Are there online/YouTube videos and tutorials that will be easy to understand and follow?
- How will I find the best online tutorials?
- Will I need equipment other than my guitar?
- Will I be able to find a quiet space in my house in which to learn?
- Will my family be supportive and willing to let to me practice/play for them?
- Will I be able to learn enough during the 20% Project to make it worth my while?
- Will I learn enough to be able to play with my brother?
- Are there certain songs I’d like to learn the chords for?
